Holcim (Vietnam) Ltd. (Holcim Vietnam), formerly known until 2002 as Morning Star Cement Ltd. was registered in February 1994 as a joint-venture company between Holcim Ltd. and then, Vietnam Cement Corporation (VNCC), now Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (VICEM), a state-owned enterprise of Vietnam. In August 2008, Holcim Vietnam was re-registered under the new Law on Enterprises as a limited liability company with two members, namely Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (VICEM) and Holcim Ltd. that respectively contributed in the Company 35% and 65% of its charter capital.

Holcim Vietnam, operating primarily in the southern area of Vietnam, currently employs around 1,500 people at its four technologically advanced cement production sites and 5 modern ready-mix concrete batching plants in addition to the HCMC Office.

As one of the leading players in our industry in Vietnam, Holcim Vietnam values the importance of sustainable development. At the core of our business strategy, we aim to provide a long lasting balance between economic development for all of our stakeholders, an emphasis on environmental performance, and our contribution to help create a healthier environment in our neighboring communities.

The launch of the Geocycle business unit in 2007 was a practical step towards our sustainable development goals. The unique properties of a modern cement kiln such as the Holcim plant at Hon Chong make it ideal for the safe destruction of waste materials. Geocycle is providing waste management solutions to a diverse range of industries in Vietnam, including footwear to pharmaceutical, chemical, consumer products…

Continuing on this path, the official launch of a Sustainable Development Department in early 2008 is testimony to Holcim Vietnam’s commitment to accompany Vietnam in its sustainable development journey.
